Bio

Brice Belisle (1933-2025)

Prolific pointillist and parallax inventor Brice Belisle brushed his final stroke with his passing February 18, 2025 in San Antonio. He was born in Iowa City, IA in 1933. His family moved to Lincoln, NE where he later attended UNL while drawing for the Lincoln Journal-Star. He moved to NYC in the 1960s where he honed his skills as art director for Transcience Corp., Redler Inc. and Freed Novelty Inc. over the course of 25 years. He created the immensely popular Sea Monkey ads that millions discovered in their favorite comic book. .
By the late 1990s, Belisle had found his calling in pointillism and moved west to San Diego, where his works were featured at Celebrations Fine Art Gallery. In 2014, at the age of 81, he returned to his Texas military roots, settling in San Antonio on Wurzbach Road. (He assisted in civilian rescue following the 1953 Waco F5 tornado that killed 114.)

Ever the pioneering entrepreneur, Belisle began a process he termed "parallax", where he created a hand-made, honeycomb-like surface out of plaster of Paris. He later opted for PVC (polyvinyl chloride). He painted inside the bowl-shaped indentations to display different colors as viewed from different angles. Videos in the parallax section bring this concept to life. He patented the technique in 2014 and it consumed most of his waking hours during his remaining years.
